STI unites with ABS-CBN: A Call for Change

August 12, 2009

Unmindful of the heat and occasional rain showers during the taping day, STIers actively took part in the 20-hour shoot held last July 24 for ABS-CBN's Ako ang Simula music video.

As part of the partnership between STI and ABS-CBN, students from STI College-Global City and STI College Taft enthusiastically and tirelessly rendered their talent and time to be part of the series of music video adaptation for the network's Boto Mo, i-Patrol Mo (BMPM) election campaign theme song. Along side Bituin Escalante, and youth bands Periodico and Sugar Free, STIers sang their hearts out and eagerly performed their poses, stunts and blocking.

Three batches of students were assigned accordingly per shoot location. First destination was Marikina and STIers were on time for the 5am call time. Next was conducted in Cainta while the last leg was conducted in ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center in Quezon City.

The first music video which was launched in May proved to be a hit. It features three of the country's most popular rock vocalists: singer/songwriter Rico Blanco, Imago vocalist Aia De Leon and Sandwich frontman Raimund Marasigan. Its strong and encouraging lyrics were written by Ira Zabat with Mike Villegas as music composer.

After a decision to bring in more local bands and distinguished artists to share their voices, the idea for the next version came. No talent fee was involved. It was a matter of volunteerism for a country's cause. The artists agreed and proudly said that this too is their advocacy, and their participation is their way of contributing to a great nation's awakening.

A combination of drumbeat, rock and ethnic music set the pace of both video campaigns. It encourages everyone to begin now and take an active part in the election process. It aims to urge

Filipinos, especially the young voters, to go beyond apathy and make a personal commitment towards 2010.

Beyond the glitz of the music video, STIers signified that their participation is their own humble way of extending efforts to help make the Philippines a better place to live in. They have attested that positive change really starts from oneself, which if taken collectively, can create a powerful impact towards betterment of society.

We can start counting the days for the release of this music video version! Together as one voice, with one undaunted vote, STIers proclaim: "Ako, ako ang simula!"
