STI College Turns Mobile School into Bakuna Bus

November 8, 2021

As a plan to take keen action against the threats of COVID-19, the City of Cotabato and City Health Office, in partnership with STI College Cotabato, has kicked off a mobile vaccination program called the "Mobile Bakuna Bus" with the tagline Bakuna Bus, Bakuna Us using the STI Mobile School.

The project was initiated by the Cluster 2 Community Health Team of Cotabato City to reach out to individuals with no access to vaccination hubs in the region.

“We are excited with this partnership because this will greatly expedite the roll-out of the vaccination program in the province. Through the STI Mobile School, we can increase the number of vaccinated individuals especially those who cannot go to designated vaccination hubs,” said Myrissa Sanday, School Administrator of STI College Cotabato.

Before the pandemic, the STI Mobile School actively traveled to remote areas to educate students with different computer concepts. However, the health crisis halted the mobility of the mobile school due to health and safety reasons.

During the pilot run, the “Mobile Bakuna Bus” visited the city’s old market where the citizens, mostly vendors who cannot leave their stores, received their first dose of vaccines. As of writing, the bus has reached four areas within the city and more than 800 of its citizens have been vaccinated. The Mobile Bakuna Bus targets to reach strategic areas such as public markets, groceries, supermarkets, malls, schools, and barangay halls in Cotabato City.

The aim of the City Government Unit of Cotabato – Office on Health Services is to achieve herd immunity within the city, reaching as many areas as they could.

"With more people vaccinated in area, the closer we get to protecting the population"

The partnership between STI College Cotabato and the city government was led by Cotabato City’s Health Officer I Meyasser T. Patadon, MD with the coordination of Cluster 2 Nurse Supervisor Stephen Henry L. Chin, RN.
