Inventions that Defined 'Future-Forward' Technology

STI College Caloocan’s BS Computer Engineering (BSCpE) students dominated the 7th National Computer Research and Engineering Symposium (CORES) 2019 and emerged as the Champion exhibitors with their inventive project design.

The research team composed of BSCpE students Adrian Andaya, Abigail Anne Alcala, Marc Cruz Bonifacio, Charles Loren Fausto, and Philip Andrew Tria designed the prototype of “Light Up”: A Wireless Signal Light Device with Cyclocomputer and GPS Tracker for Bicycle and Motorcycle Vehicles that won first place.   

BSCpE students win first place in the National Computer Research and Engineering Symposium (CORES) 2019 for their design project "Light Up".

 

Light Up’s design consists of a transmitter device mounted to the rear of the vehicle and a wireless signal light receiver attached to the helmet and jacket that helps motorists make signals without removing their hands from the handlebars. It also includes an indicator on the device that notifies the user which signal light is active. All of these are powered by a battery that recharges on a solar cell that provides it with renewable energy and longer battery life.

Two other teams also took a spot in the top awards at the research exhibit.


"Mirror Tech" is a smart mirror that acts as a fashion assistant created by BSCS students that placed 3rd in the research exhibit.

The Real – Time Flood Level Monitoring App with Serial Indicator and Solar Panel Technology project of BSIT students were also awarded 3rd place.

Both finishing 3rd in the national research convention are the groups of BS Information Technology (BSIT) students RB Batiancila, John Harold Carlos, Aldrinne Allen Felizardo, Chrys Justin Gentica, and Cheska Keith Abarro with their project Real – Time Flood Level Monitoring App with Serial Indicator and Solar Panel Technology and BS Computer Science (BSCS) students Alvin Ongay, Renz Adriane Ocampo, Ray Clark Sulit, Ron Cedie Pineda, and Patrick Swayze Acabo with their thesis “Mirror Tech” An Augmented Reality System using Smart Mirror Technology with Decision Support in Fashion Outfit Selection. Both groups showcased successful project proposals that targeted different objectives that matter to people.

Held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on February 6, 2019, the research convention was grounded on the theme “Ideating the Future: Shifting Focus from Technology to Opportunity” and aimed to stage the inventions of young tech innovators. True to its vision to produce competitive ICT professionals, STI encourages students to join these events for them to explore and widen their perspective of the industry.
