September 9, 2014

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology (BSAT) of STI Education Services Group, Inc. (STI) recently passed the recognition of the National Institute of Accounting Technicians (NIAT) declaring the program to be at par with the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT®) global  standards.

NIAT is a Philippine-based organization that dedicates itself to the growth of the industry of Accounting Technology. It evaluates the curricula of schools with Accounting Technology programs, and determine its alignment with the certification program it provides. STI, through the Content Research and Development (CRD) group of its Academics division, has earned the recognition of the business and accounting courses under the BSAT program, qualifying STI students for the three-part CAT® licensure examinations without additional training which is required for BSAT graduates of non-recognized schools.

The recognition STI received from NIAT not only acknowledges STI's design of the BSAT program, but also helps propel the success of the accounting technology career of students undergoing the program. Passing each level of the exams confers an honorifics that are recognized by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers of UK, Institute of Certified Management of Accountants (ICMA) in Australia, and Association of Accounting Technicians of UK, giving the passers a promising future abroad.

In a statement, Dr. Harry Alfonso Joson, STI’s AVP for Management Information Systems (MIS) and Head of Academic Research & Development, says, "with the recognition STI gained from NIAT, our students are accepted to be better trained to take on the real world of the industry as professionals, and find better employment opportunities in the future. This ultimately provides STI’s BSAT graduates a better advantage in their education. "

CAT Level 1 Examination passers (Practical Accounting) are officially designated as Certified Bookkeepers (CB). The Registered Cost Accountant (RCA) designation is given to successful passers of CAT Level 2 Examination (Cost Accounting). The CAT® designation is granted to successful passers of all three levels of the exam, including the last one on Taxation and Payroll Accounting.
