March 13, 2012
For the third straight year, STI Colleges has strengthened its commitment to support DZMM in its run for a cause. With education as its advocacy, this year's run is dubbed as DZMM Takbo Para Sa Karunungan, held at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on March 11, 2012.
STI Colleges has prepared school supplies for DZMM's 75 beneficiaries, comprised of scholars from Metro Manila, Cagayan de Oro, and Iligan City who were affected by the Typhoons Ondoy and Sendong.
Student representative Lorraine Velasco of STI College – Caloocan officially endorsed the gifts to DZMM during the awarding ceremony last March 11. “As a student myself, I pray that our simple gifts can help rekindle hope in our youth nationwide and let them know that they are not alone in their quest to exercise their right to quality education,” Lorraine shared.
With the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the ABS-CBN Integrated Public Service, DZMM will select the 25 student beneficiaries from Cagayan de Oro and another batch of 25 students from Iligan City. The funds amassed on this project will also aid the continued scholarship of the 25 Ondoy victims from Metro Manila who were chosen as beneficiaries of last year's run.
Spreading the STI spirit of volunteerism, thousands of students, faculty members, and staff from various STI Colleges in Metro Manila have proudly exhibited their commitment as they gathered around to race at the 5k category for the past DZMM's advocacies on environmental cause and educational drive.
