STI College Supports CyberPress' 2nd Write IT Right
January 28, 2010
IT news reporting is sure to see a bright future with the batch of brilliant young minds brewing its way to cyber journalism!
Out of the 21 high schools from various private and public institutions who participated in this year's "Write IT Right" on-the-spot writing contest held at the STI Academic Center last November, the top three winners were finally announced on January 15 at the Club Cafe of the Makati Sports Club.
The top 10 finalists were given due acknowledgement by representatives from CyberPress, EMC Philippines, and STI. Seven student runners-up were chosen, citing their schools in alphabetical order namely Chang Kai Shek College, De La Salle University – Araneta, Diliman Preparatory School, Lakandula High School, Mandaluyong High School, Quezon City Science High School, and Ramon Magsaysay High School – Cubao.
Jose Emmanuel Gana (Philippine Science High School), Julianne Cabodil (Manila High School), and Maria Emmanuel Tagudiña (Elizabeth Seton School) bagged the first, second, and third place respectively. The top three winners took home exciting prizes, which include the Gift of Knowledge from STI College awarded by Mr. Elbert de Guzman, STI's Vice President for Communications.
The students were judged on their ability to write a substantial news feature based on a given topic. During the contest proper, a mock press conference was held with the students as journalists and STI Brand Manager Karen Precious La Rosa as speaker. The topic of discussion revolved around STI's rich history and its unique Enrollment to Employment (E2E) System.
Guest speakers were also invited to further inspire the students. Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature Hall of Famer Alfred A. Yuson provided tips and insights on how to write an effective news feature. CyberPress President Jing Garcia, on the other hand, encouraged students to hone essential skills needed to excel and enjoy the writing craft and become a great IT journalist.
Aimed at promoting cyber journalism among the youth, the competition was jointly organized by the Information Technology Journalists Association of the Philippines (ITJAP), also known as CyberPress, and its partner information-infrastracture solutions company EMC Philippines.
With the thrust of continuously providing high quality ICT-enhanced education to the Filipino youth, STI College will continue to partner with groups that promote such developmental activities. STI truly salutes all the young writers who participated in this year's Write IT Right competition.
