STI Celebrates 26th Anniversary

September 1, 2009

26 years and still counting!

It was definitely a festive feat for the entire STI Community as it once again commemorated its foundation day. A celebration of talents, skills and achievements symbolizing STI's thrust towards excellence in education and co-curricular activities was divided into a fun-filled 3-day event.

Various academic competitions spiced up the celebration last August 24 and 26 at the STI Academic Center. These included ThinkQuest (team quiz), INTO Programming (computer programming), Stand up & Deliver (impromptu speech), Essay Does It! (essay writing), Bits and PCs (PC assembly), All in Place (table setting with menu card preparation), Center of Attention (edible centerpiece presentation) and Chef Xpress (cooking competition).

Culminating activities took place last August 28 at Enchanted Kingdom, where more than 16,000 students from STI campuses all over the country eagerly participated. Due to the astounding number of people present in the celebration, the programs were held simultaneously in two venues – the Band Stand and the Space Port areas.

Audiences from the Band Stand were all thrilled by talent competitions such as Battle of the Bands (amateur band competition) and STI Idol (solo singing competition). They also enjoyed the dynamic performances from Spongecola, Hansom and Join the Club. The Space Port area, on the other hand, was packed with enthused spectators of Hataw Sayaw (group dance competition) and the much awaited search for Mr. and Ms. STI 2009 hosted by celebrities and STIers themselves PJ Valerio and Aiza Marquez. Award-winning rapper and another STIer, GLOC-9, along with Pinoy Dream Academy finalists Liezel Garcia and Hansen Nichols also joined in the fun and kept the crowd's spirits high.

This year's anniversary theme also leverages on the nationalistic spirit with "Simulan Natin!" — STI's inspiration to continually strengthen its commitment to instill positive change in every STIer and extending it to the communities. STI is not only known for upholding academic excellence but also advocates social responsibility.

Meanwhile, in line with the 26th anniversary celebration was the official inauguration of the STI Academic Center last August 20, 2009. This is the institution's prime hub for real-life education where academic and technological standards are set. Situated at the progressive city of Taguig, the 8-storey building occupies a 2,632-square-meter lot in Bonifacio Global City. The STI Academic Center also houses STI College-Global City.

Equally exciting was the launching of the STI Center of Arts, also in STI College-Global City last August 14, 2009. This proves that the institution is unstoppable in its growth and development beyond Information Technology. Now extending competitive specialty and short-term courses for the Arts, such as Music, Dance, Theater, Photography and Culinary, the establishment of the STI Center of Arts makes the 26th Anniversary of STI even more special
