STIers join 21st Philippine Advertising Congress
December 21, 2009
It was one heck of an experience – but STIers surely rose to the occasion.
Despite the last-minute shift of event venues from Baguio City to Subic Bay Freeport, owing to the recent string of calamities that hit the country, the recently concluded 21st Philippine Advertising Congress proved to be a huge success – and STIers were there to help make it happen.
As early as September this year, STI has deployed more than 130 student volunteers, along with faculty and staff members, from STI College – Global, STI College – Makati and STI College – Olongapo, to help organizers get started with the pre-production work.
The typically taxing legwork that comes with event management proved to be doubly challenging to these students when tropical storm Ondoy and typhoon Pepeng struck last October. Preparations became more demanding as everything had to be done at lightning speed. Notwithstanding the pressure, STIers still provided their unwavering support for various committees including PR and Publicity, Sports, Registration, Program & Protocol, and Transportation to name a few.
The actual event, which was held last November 18 to 21, helped bring out the best in these STIers as they diligently rendered their services, from manning the registration booth for delegates, ushering media guests, VIPs and representatives, to coordinating with speakers, and assisting the Creative committee during the pre-screening and judging of the highly anticipated Araw Awards.
The Philippine Advertising Congress is a nationwide annual assembly of delegates (entrepreneurs, business enterprises, media, creative geniuses, etc) from various industries, and is considered as the "Oscars" of the advertising industry. It's a much awaited gathering of creative minds which features a hefty slew of speakers and resource persons, mixed in with various social events that promote camaraderie and networking. One of its highlights is the Araw Awards, which gives due recognition to the best ads in the industry for the year.
Always with the creativity up its sleeve to turn things around, the AdCon's response to calamity is strengthened resolve to carry on and make significant changes. Thus, this year's theme, "Perspectives: Ano sa tingin mo?" couldn't be more appropriate. It posed a bigger challenge to everyone to look at every possible dimension of situations in order to come up with more effective solutions that deliver outstanding results.
Immersing students to, and giving them a taste of, the corporate world is STI's way of providing them an actual experience of the real working environment. It aims to equip these young learners with first-hand know-hows on working and thriving in a competitive and diverse corporate setting.
This volunteering program also serves dual purpose as this is STI's way of showing support to the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA), to which STI is a proud member. Plus, this is the first time the Ad Congress has decided to get student volunteers from only one school. Hence, STIers who joined this years' Ad Congress may say that it is truly a valuable experience like no other.
