5 Types of Bullying You Should Know

November 21, 2019

Bullying is a serious problem that has become more prevalent in today’s digital age. Bullying is a mean and hurtful behavior that occurs repeatedly and can be experienced by any person anytime and anywhere. It has many forms so it is important to know and understand them so we can prevent it from happening.

Bullying is not fun. It is a cruel and terrible thing to do to someone. No one deserves to be bullied.

Sexual Bullying

This type consists of crude comments and harmful, humiliating actions towards another individual. This can be an insulting comment on one’s appearance or body, or even engaging in name-calling.

Cyberbullying

This occurs when an individual harasses another person by spreading mean words, lies, and false rumors through the internet, social media, and text messages.

Physical Bullying

This is when a person uses aggressive and physical actions (such as hitting, punching, slapping, and kicking) on another individual to exert control over the latter.

Prejudicial Bullying

This type of bullying happens when a person singles out someone because he/she is different from the group due to race or ethnic background, religion, or sexual orientation.

Verbal Bullying

This kind of bullying uses cruel words as well as name-calling to demean, belittle, and hurt someone.

If you know someone who is being bullied or who is being a bully, do not keep it to yourself. Talk to your teacher and Guidance Counselor as well as family and trusted friends to help you handle the situation. The impact of bullying can lead to anxiety and depression so it should never be tolerated. Let’s choose kindness instead and spread positivity at all times.
