Easy DIY Upcycling Projects
You’re probably more familiar with the term ‘recycling’ when it comes to transforming old stuff into reusable items.
But have you heard of upcycling? Upcycling is a form of recycling where the composition of the material is not changed in the process of turning it into a better quality product. So you are simply creating a cooler version of the reused products. You’ll only need creativity and inspiration to transform the potential trash into a treasure.
So, get rid of the clutter and start collecting your DIY (do-it-yourself) building blocks like used cartons, shabby clothes, and old homeware. Here are some easy upcycling ideas you can try.
1. Fold the shirt in half to cut both sleeves at once. Cut the collar area as well.
2. Turn the fabric inside out. Determine how deep the bag will be then mark a line at the bottom.
3. Start cutting slits about one inch apart at the bottom edge of the shirt up to the line marking. Make sure the shirt lays flat so each fringe has an exact pair.
4. Tie a knot for each pair of fringe. Notice that there are holes in between the knots.
5. To close the holes between each set, begin by working the first three fringes. Grab one strand from the middle pair and tie a knot with one of the strands from the left pair.
6. With the remaining strand from the middle pair, tie another knot with one of the strands from the right pair. Repeat steps 5 and 6 on the
next sets of fringes.
7. Turn the shirt right side out and you’re good to go!
1. Remove the top and bottom of the soda can using sharp scissors. Cut through the center to create a rectangle.
2. Draw a straight line from the edge of the longer side then cut along the line.
3. Make a line measuring one inch below the cut edge. Repeat drawing so you have two segments. Cut along the second line to have both edges straight.
4. Lay the ruler on the rectangle then using scissors, bend the longer edge about 1/8 or 1/4 inch. Press it flat. Repeat process on the other side.
5. Cut along the center to have two separate pieces.
6. Draw a pattern of the shape you want to create on a clean paper. Take one of the metal piece then bend accordingly.
7. Cut any excess metal and finish it off by crimping the edges together using pliers. Use the cookie cutter and start baking!
