A Showcase of Artistic Mastery in STI Tagisan ng Talino
By: Miguel La Torre , May 30, 2024
After making its triumphant onsite return last year, the STI Tagisan ng Talino (TNT) continues to move forward after holding a successful run of the 2023 National Round at STI College Legazpi in Albay on May 23, 2024.
STIers from eight clusters displayed remarkable will and good sportsmanship in the TNT as they engaged in an all-out battle to finish on top in nine different categories.
A Test of Brains and Brawn
Contestants got creative in mixing tequila and showing off their bar flairtending routines at the Mix ‘N Flair Flairtending Competition. They demonstrated their culinary proficiencies in preparing, cooking, and plating a three-course meal in the Chef Xpress Cooking Competition.
Students showcased their knowledge in formal dinner table arrangement and complex table scenarios in the All In Place Table Setting Competition, while their mastery of satisfying everyone’s sweet tooth was displayed in the Worth The Whisk Cake Decorating Competition, where they paid homage to Filipino Culinary Heritage by preparing a Filipino Dessert Extravaganza-themed cake.
The students' general knowledge was put to the test over at the Think Quest Team Quiz Competition as they answered questions about anything under the sun. They were also able to put their programming and app designing aptitudes to use in Codefest, a 36-hour mobile app hackathon held in STI College Ortigas-Cainta campus.
In the Stand Up and Deliver Speech Competition, contestants took a stand addressing the question “How do challenges contribute to personal growth and development,” with their valuable insights on stage. Aspiring writers, on the other hand, showcased their eloquent and engaging write-ups with the theme of embracing individuality in developing unity in the Essay Does It! Essay Writing Competition.
Tourism Management students, meanwhile, displayed their amazing guiding skills in Travelogue where they took the audience on a simulated trip to the historic citadel of Fort Santiago in Intramuros, Manila.
Lessons Beyond the Classroom
As a leading provider of quality education in the country, STI College combines traditional learning, hands-on experiences, and character-building activities in its practical programs, aiming to prepare graduates for the future and develop well-rounded individuals.
“The experience for me was very thrilling,” said Caryll Del Rosario, the 2nd Runner-up of the Travelogue competition.“Overall, I’m taking it as an opportunity for me to grow and get better experience,” the Grade 12 Tourism Operations student added.
“Having participated in events such as this both as a spectator and a competitor, I believe these events are essential for aspiring professionals in the sense that it helps bring out the best of their performance under pressure,” said Xellever Miro Abatol, one-third of the STI College Tagum team that brought home the Think Quest plum.
True to its mission of nurturing well-rounded individuals, events like the TNT serve as an avenue for students to practice what they learn in the classroom and apply it to the modern world, where everything is within their grasp.
“The TNT serves as a medium for our students to practice the skills they learn in their classrooms,” STI Education Services Group (STI ESG) Assistant Vice President Ferdie T. Dantes said. “It also allows them to connect with other peers over healthy competition that promotes camaraderie and good sportsmanship,” he added.
