

TNT 2012 High Flyers and Achievers Named

From the tip of Luzon to the end nooks of Mindanao, the best and the brightest STIers gathered in the national finals of Tagisan ng Talino 2012. Held on March 6 and 8, 2012 at the STI Academic Center Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, the contenders battled in two main categories: the Plates and Palates and the Facts and Flairs.
Under the Plates and Palates, the finalists showcased their culinary flair as they competed in All in Place (Table Setting with Menu Card Preparation), Center of Attention (Edible Centerpiece Presentation), and Chef Xpress (Cooking Competition).
In All in Place competition, STI College – Taft were declared as the champion with their concept titled Flora and Fauna which displayed their commitment in protecting the environment. Meanwhile, bagging the most coveted award in Center of Attention was STI College – Fairview with their entry, Seed of Change which showed that change begins within. Not to be left behind were the future chefs who put the heat on fire in Chef Xpress. They created their own recipes based on the secret ingredients – tofu and native corn – that were revealed only hours before the cook-off. Armed with expertise, confidence, and prayers, STI College – General Santos tasted the sweetest victory.
For the Facts and Flairs, the finalists demonstrated their academic competencies in Think Quest (Team Quiz Competition), INTO Programming (Programming Competition), Stand Up and Deliver (Impromptu Speech Competition), BITs and PCs (PC Assembly Competition), and Essay Does It! (Essay Writing Competition).
Dominating the Think Quest-Junior Division (for 2-year program students) was STI College – Sta. Maria while the Senior Division (for 4-year program students) was swept by STI College – Quezon Avenue. In INTO Programming, besting fellow contenders in the Junior Division was STI Vigan while STI College – Global City got the title in the Senior Division after their analytical and critical thinking skills were tested. Meanwhile, making the loudest impact in Stand Up and Deliver was the speaker from STI College – Mandaue who made a statement on the importance of responsible usage of search engine sites in conducting research. On the other hand, for the BITS and PCs, STI College – Balagtas built their way to the top after putting together the fundamental parts of a PC while an essayist from STI College – Global City penned a remarkable success with a piece inspired from the lyrics of a song, “A Dream” by Jay Z.
At the end, more than the bragging rights and prizes, Tagisan ngTalino is a learning experience for all the participants to give their all, strive to be their best, and spread their wings wide in order to achieve great heights.
