Guess who the New Red Cross Volunteers are!

March 6, 2016

Typhoon Yolanda was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. It has brought a storm surge to the country that destroyed a significant amount of properties and brought a number of provinces into a state of calamity.

Despite being hit by the typhoon’s onslaught, the Municipality of Rosario, under Mayor Jose M. Ricafrente, Jr., adopted and continues to support Yolanda survivor families from Leyte and Samar. Seeing how destructive and life-threatening these phenomena can be, awareness and preparedness is very important for people to stay safe and sheltered when disasters occur.

On November 10, 2015, STI College – Rosario was graced with the presence of the Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard “Dick” J. Gordon and the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Rosario such as Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection – Rosario Fire Station, Municipal Health Office, Philippine National Police – Rosario Sub Station, and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), who aim to uphold the values of volunteerism in times of calamity. Chairman Gordon shared his experiences and discussed on how to be prepared before, during, and after calamities. He also stressed on the importance of being involved and being of service to others in need.

The activity became an avenue for the students to become more aware and be prepared in the event of emergencies and devastating circumstances. After the talk, the STI students registered to become Red Cross Volunteers.
