MOTA Granted to STI's Most Visionary

Exceptional students who worked together on the most accomplished thesis this year are the recipients of the Most Outstanding Thesis Award (MOTA), granted to them on April 4, 2014 at STI Academic Center in Ortigas-Cainta.

The STI MOTA is an annual award given to the most proficient and revolutionary thesis project made by graduating STIers under the programs BS Computer Science (BSCS) and BS Computer Engineering (BSCoE). Nominations for the esteemed honor came from STI’s network all over the country.

 

BSCS students Joseph Ramos, John Paul Concepcion, Marrian Urian, and Pauline Velasco of STI College - Meycauayan awed the panelists with their thesis entitled Android Car Lesson and Utilities with Tracker and Communications Technology (ACLUTCH).Under the guidance of their adviser Mr. Albert Bation, the group developed an android application for motorists that allows GPS to locate a vehicle, is capable of activating and deactivating the electricity supply of the vehicle, and is also bundled with more functions such as a scheduler, a flashlight, and traffic advisory.

 

Gilbert Laxamana, Kharen Niñofranco, and Ernie Buaya Jr., BSCoE students of STI College - Recto devised an environment-friendly study with their thesis MCU Based Remote Controlled Oil Spill Clean-up Surface Vessel. With the supervision of their adviser Engr. Elizier Obamos, the group built a surface vessel that can be used as an immediate response unit to an oil spill occurrence and reduce the harmful effects to the water ecosystem. It can be controlled through an android application, mainly used to administer the mobility of the vessel.

 

All MOTA entries went through a thorough assessment by experts and professionals namely: Dr. Renato A. Villegas, Senior Education Program Specialist (SEPS) for the Office of Programs and Standards Development-Programs Development Division (OPSD-PDD) at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED); Mr. Rolando R. Lansigan and Mr. Elcid Serrano, members of CHED for Regional Quality Assurance Team in NCR for BSCS and BSIT; Engr. Orlando Malaca, Chief of MIS Department at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Technical Panel for Computer Engineering at CHED; and Engr. Joselito Eduard Goh, member of Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines (ICpEP) and evaluator of CHED Task Force for Computer Engineering Program.
